Introduction:

All visitors to this site are able to leave comments in the discussion forum and on blog posts - simply click on "Add new comment" and fill out the form.

Subscribed users can, in addition, start new threads in the discussion forum, and submit blog posts. If you want to discuss anything related to marketisation of HE and/or Sussex university, post it in the forum.

If you are a member of Sussex not for Sale, then a blog post is a convenient way to make information available to the public. But to be able to post, you first need to get an account, and login.

Getting an account

The easiest way to get an account and login -if you use facebook- is to click on the blue facebook image on the left hand side, and login using your facebook account by simply following the instructions. Your account will be created instantly and you will be logged in. Next time you want to log into the site, you should again login with your facebook ID - this saves you having to memorise another password. If you create your account in this way, your username will consist of your surname and family name. We suggest you protect your anonymity by changing your username: when logged in, click on "My account" on the left hand side, then on "edit", and then type in your preferred username. Also, despite what the fb form says, we do not access any information from your facebook account, except for your full name which is used as the initial username.

Alternatively you can create an account the traditional way:

  • on the left hand side bar, click 'create new account'
  • fill in the form
  • a few seconds/minutes later you should receive an email with instructions on how to login.
  • follow these instructions, login 

Once you're logged in, a new menu will appear on the left hand side bar, with the options 'Create content: ' "Blog entry" and "Forum topic". Click on these to submit a post, and follow the instructions . If you want to reply to a post in the forum, simply click "Add new comment" at the end of the post in the forum.

Using FCKeditor

We use FCKeditor, a Free software (i.e.copyleft) text editor. It will from now appear automatically when you're submitting forum or blog posts, or other forms. It allows you to :

  • format text - bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, headings, etc
  • insert bulleted or numbered lists, and even tables
  • more importantly, add links: select the text that you want to become a link, then click on the "Insert/Edit Link" icon(), then paste the URL into the URL field that pops up.
  • add pictures, if the picture is available on the interent and you know the URL - this is very similar to adding a link : go with the cursor to the place where you want to insert the image, then click the "Insert/Edit Image" icon, paste the URL of the image you want to enter. There are a lot of things you can configure next, but the only one that will usually be relevant is "Align", often 'left' or 'right' will be the most appropriate.
  • various other things, like smilies, special characters, align text, indent and so on

Submitting minutes

All logged in users are able to submit minutes from SNFS meetings to the site. To protect people's identity, please enter only one initial of their name.

  • log in with your user name
  • a new block will appear on your LHS - click on 'Create content' > 'Minutes'
  • the minutes submission form opens. Fill in the title field
  • select the group/subgroup from the drop-down list. If nothing appropriate is available, contact an admin.
  • select the date when the minuted meeting took place
  • if you want, put in your name as the minute taker.
  • enter the minutes in the 'Body' field. Please remember to only use one initial when you 'name' a person
  • click on 'Preview' to check that everything is OK.
  • click on Submit - don't forget this last step otherwise you will lose everything you filled in.

Events 

All logged in users are able to submit SNFS-related events to the site. These events will apear in a block on the front page, as well as under http://www.sussexnot4sale.org.uk/events

  • log in with your user name
  • a new block will appear on your LHS - click on 'Create content' > 'Event'
  • the event submission form opens. Fill in the title - this field is mandatory.
  • select the date and the time where the event will take place
  • fill in the place where the event will be - the room&building if it's on Sussex campus, or the location if it's off campus
  • enter further details in the 'Body' field.
  • click on 'Preview' to check that everything is OK.
  • click on Submit - don't forget this last step otherwise you will lose everything you filled in.
