Minutes
These minutes will begin with Feedbacks from the smaller meetings that began the meeting. After this a brief description of the discussion, followed by new plans and a timetable for upcoming meetings - including this week's tasks - and events.
FEEDBACK Communications Sub Group Feedback:
Demand for VCEG's proposals to be released by 5pm, May 9th was written up in draft form. Posters were designed.
Research Sub Group Feedback:
Organised this week's talk. A call for more people to join this group, which now has a big part of it as Event Organisation (see bottom of page)
Webpage Sub Group Feeback:
Improvements for Website suggested (more at bottom of page) A call for introductory passage (Cathy & Saul volunteered)
Reading Group Feedback:
No one came this week. The text being looked at it has a link on the website and is by Alex Callinicos.
Faculty Feedback:
Statement that originally had 76 faculty signatures now has 110 (over 20% of faculty) and will be sent to the VCEG. There is a proposal that faculty will receive promotion based on Student Evaluation Questionnaires (SEQ's) This will create competition and destroy community spirit of education. New course evaluation questionnaire will be on Sussex Direct will also put competition between teachers and associate tutors.
DISCUSSION
The Demand:
The demand has a deadline of 5pm on May 9th should include the phrase "for all staff and students to discuss the proposal" There has been no consultation with the university about the proposals so far, but the VCEG have been having private meetings with departments making deals with them. We, as a community, need to time to discuss the changes that will effect us.
International Students and there Financial Situation:
The policy of the university is to allow 7 days notice (this is without access to university facilities and regardless of exams) any student who cannot pay the fees on time. Though this is not exclusive to international students, students should be allowed to complete their year of study and be in debt to the university.
Support Workers represented by UNISON: blurb will be put up soon.
NEW PLANS (proposals section in the meeting) - more details of these are on the discussion board.
Saul & Cathy are going to write an introduction to ENS.
There's going to be a 'Free University' event in Week 6.
Solidarity with Luqman: ENS supports this campaign.
A Party to happen in Library Square on May 13th (to help with this look to the bottom of the post)
Change in times for the Sub Groups (communications, research, webpage - details below) and talks. (details below)

hey there,
Thanks for putting the minutes up. Just a question: where can I find the details of the new meeting times for sub-groups?
xx,
Alex
oops!
meeting times are:
Research and Events - Fridays, 2pm, Falmer Common Room (previously RB01)
Communications - Fridays, 3pm Falmer Common Room
Webpage - Tuesdays, 3pm (?) Badger Office (2nd floor Falmer House)
hope to see people there.
the details above are wrong - we're meeting at 5pm in the Falmer house Common Room. If anybody wants to join us to work on the website, it would be best to get in touch with Alex or myself.
we are starting to put minutes on the site in a more systematic way - I just put these in. Th archive is available here (need to be logged in to see it: http://www.sussexnot4sale.org.uk/minutes
