Minutes of organisation meeting for Thursday’s mass meeting Held at 3pm on Monday 10th March in Falmer Common Room. Chair: To be voted on at the mass meeting. Anyone is welcome to nominate themselves by contacting Koos Couvee (communications@ussu.sussex.ac.uk). Before we have confirmed a chair it was suggested that Dan Vockins introduce the meeting and oversee the nominations in his capacity as President of the Student Union, although we are awaiting his confirmation. Minutes: A minute-taker will be appointed in the same way. Again, contact Koos. Speakers: It was felt that at previous meetings there has not been enough time for discussion and, given the amount of publicity the campaign has gathered in the past few weeks, it is not necessary to have any speakers. This will allow time for input from everyone at the meeting and will encourage participation (as opposed to some feeling like spectators at an event). Agenda: Rather than having a set agenda for the meeting to ratify, it was decided that the emphasis would be on creating an agenda at the meeting in order for more organic and free discussion. The agenda proposed is currently: Nominate chair, who will go through hand signals etc. Nominate minute-taker. Create agenda. Two topics which will need to be addressed are a) Demonstration on Friday and b) Where the campaign will go from here. Discussion. It is vital to have a strong chair at this meeting so that it will run smoothly. The focus on the need for organic discussion arises from a general feeling that previous meetings have not been as inclusive as perhaps they could have been, with some feeling that an ’elite’ has formed within the campaign of those who are most involved. For the campaign to survive it is important to make sure that everyone feels able to express any ideas/ discussion topics they may have. The mass meeting will be held on Thursday 13th March at 5pm in Engineering 2 AS03 (same place as last time). Sof, xx
