Alternative Vision:
We believe in a university that is more democratic to both staff and students.
We believe in student and staff power in the governance structure.
We believe that research support systems should be reached through those involved with the process itself.
We believe that teaching and research should not be assessed by their financial benefit to the university.
We believe in academic freedom.
We believe in being valued for our strengths.
We, as students at this university, are not consumers.
This campaign is part of an alternative vision that we believe is achievable.
We believe the university should be ranked by our own standards not those of national ranking systems, though students consider them, we believe they do not encompass the true value of our university.
We believe that we need not bow to current market pressures, but can lead student demand through the quality of our teaching and research.
As students we are here for educating ourselves, this does not directly mean employability.
We believe that management should represent the student and staff body.

Dialogue
For this vision to come together it is necessary to find something to stand on, an interesting point i discussed with someone was that campaigns are often destroyed by their reluctance to except anything but absolute unity.
I would urge people to involve themselves with this alternative vision, to correct it, add to it, and comment generally.
A good point was made that we cannot have an 'eye for an eye' approach. Documents such as the sussex vision published in 2003 and an article in today's guardian education supplement on foreign students by Jessica Shepherd back up what we are fighting for in terms of strategy and so on. the link will be up soon. For now, add comments and thoughts... to this or other parts of the site
